Assault on a Boarding-House Keeper.
Patrick Kolley alias Patrick Murphy, a middle-aged man of swarthy countenance, was charged in tlio S.M. Court, before Messrs Price and Lowes, J.P.'s, with doing grievous bodily harm to one Edward Mould, boarding-house keeper, on Thursday evening last. * Accused pleaded not guilty, and said he was the worse for liquor, Edward Mould, sworn, stated that at about eleven o'clock on Thursday night, a man came over the street from Mr Malby's to where witness was standing at his front door, and said " I'm a Liverpool man, and a better man than you," at the same lime striking witness heavily with his knee, rendering him nncoMciouß for a few minutes. Vo In answer to accused, wfiioss said tlio man was not the worse for liquor. Accused was charged on a second f information with seriously assaulting Mrs Maunsill, near the police station. Mrs Maunsill, called, stated that she went for the police and had the accused taken in charge, and while waiting at the police station accused j struck her. The man was not the worse for liquor. This evidence was corroborated by the Sergeant. Accused said ho had never struck a woman in his iife, and must have been the worse for liquor if ho had done so. The accused was sentenced to one month's hard labor in the Welling- J ton Terrace Gaol, the two chargos being taken as one.
