WHAREAMA NOTES.
(From om"Own 'Correspondent), , ' .. Wednesday. . Wo are .having, a long spell of.dry weather and people are beginning, to grumble, but, as it rule -.we; have rain in tho month of November and 1 might mention as a coincidence that for the last seven years rain has fallen on tli'e 10th of November. This year.tho 10th was lino although rain fell on tho following day. ■ We must not forget that although wo are comparatively short of feed, and tho crops parched up, that we are having grand weather for shearing, which is now in full swing.
The death rate amongst young sheep last winter was exceptionally heavy, some people have lost fully fifty per cent, of their hoggets. This loss coupled with an excessively poor lambing will be felt for some time all over the district. Since the steamboat" Kiwi" was wrecked off the coast near Glcnbuin \vc have had two or three boats doing our carrying and at last have got our old friend Oa-pt. Campbell back again in his new steamboat the " Southern Cross."
A public meeting was held'at Homcwood on tlio 10th inst to considor tho advisability of holding atlieletic sports on tho coast on New Years Day, and it was unanimously resolved that they should bo held in Mr Tatham's paddock as' hitherto. There is also some talk of forming a local Rillo Club, if sufficient inducement is offered. ' '■'
