GREYTOWN NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent),

Saturday. Yesterday our town presented a deserted appearance, The races at Taratahi drew a large number of " sporte," Rogers' large Palaco 'bus and Wall's and Wpnden's drags left the town for tho races packed. A good number journeyed to Featherston to attend a picnic in connection with the Wesleyan Church,

A rifle match between "the Wellington City Rifles and the ttroytown Club was fired at tbo Papawai butts and resulted in a win for the visitors.

A wicket match Phoonix, of Wellington, and tho Greytown Club waß played on the Reserve, resulting in a win for the visitors. Afternoon tea was provided on the ground for ilip visitors by a number of ladies interested in tho game of cricket, In the evening a concert was given in aid of a water supply for the Recreation Reserve and was well attended. His Worship tho Mayor (Mr J, D, Heagerty) opened the pro- i peeding with a very neat speech,and | congratulated tho Greytown Club on its 27th anniversary,'

'A banner (made hy Mrs W. Rowse, junr,,) was presented to the Club by a number of ladies, accompanied by an address, wishing the Club every success.' The Mayor fJ)en handed the banner to the Captain (Mr H, Hawke.) The banner itself was artistically finished and re, fleets great credit on the designer, who was presented with a bouquot. Mr W. Knell was the recipient of a brooch for the highest score raado during the match. Mr D. Reardon, brothor of Mrs /no, O'Connor, of Greytown, died jasfc Thursday .morning at Mr iO'Gonnors residence, His funeral takes place May. Mr Reardon has been a great sufferer for years past.
