MAURICEVILLE ROAD BORD.

Monthly Meeting,

The ordinary meeting of the Maurieeville Road Board was held on Saturday the 27th inst.--Present Messrs 0. Forsberg (Chairman), 0. Tait, J. F, Heckler, J. Bannister, and P. Glecson.

The minntes'of the previous meeting wore read and confuincd and correspondence outward, The following correspondence inward was read:—-From the Treasury notifying the Board that loan of £IOOO for Ihuraua Valley Road is now available.

FromG.R,H.lbettson,C.E,, enclosing tracing of part of Dagg's Road.

From the Chairman Pahiatua County Council, reply and enquiry re levying special rates.

From Mr Pownall, solicitor, re road through Mr O'Connor's property, From Mr D, M. Brooks with reference to tho removal of limestone on road reserve.

From Mr Greville, surveyor, re survey of road through section 78, B. I, Kopuaraugn, From Messrs Piatt, Cooper, Carrigan and other settlers on tho Central Mangamahoe Road, requesting the Board to apply for the Government grant and also expressing a desire that tho formation may be j carried out as economically as possible.

With reference to this last matter the Board decided thatit is certainly desirablo that no unnecessary expense be incurred, but at the same time settlors should consider that the'general interests aud progress of the distiict as well as the fact that a grant in aid is promised, demand that tho work bo carried out in a substantial manner.

From the Board's solicitor, notifying tlio Clei'kaiid Collector to attend at the S.M, Court in connection with the suing of defaulting ratepayers. _ Messrs Roigaid and Matson interviewed the Board with reference to the forming of Johnston's Road, and also to get some information as to whether a loan can be got for this work.

After fully discussing the matter it was agreed that no decisive action bo taken at present, but that the question of raising aloanbecarefully considered by the parties interested before the next meeting of thcßoardj and if it then appears thatamajority aro in favor of a loan steps will be taken to raise it.' It was resolved to recommend tlio Engineer to appoint"'Mi- Robert Brown as inspector of the works in progress on the Ihuraua Valley Bond,

The Clerk was instructed to write to the Commissioner re thirds from sections on the C. Jlanganiahoe Eoad, and to communicate with the County Council and the Upper Taueru Road Board, with reference to the adjusmenfc of accounts, and also to apply for tho various Government grants in aid. Instructions were also given to make inquiry regarding the deviation on Dagg's road, and if circumstances permit to advertise for tenders for formation on said road before next meeting, Specifications will be prepared for metalling detached portions of Dreyer's Bock Road,

A very lengthy discussion took place over the allotting of accrued thirds from sections to which road access is completed. A decision was finally arrived at, but not without determined opposition on the part of some members,

Accounts amounting to £lB5 14s were passed for payment. Tho following tenders for work on Ihuraua Valley Road, were opened at a special meeting held on the 13th inst:—No. 1, M, Kerins, £409 ss; M. P. Britt, £3BO (accepted); No. 2, M. Kerins, £320; Palmer and Co,, £234 lu's; Britt and Co,, £193; 0, audP. Hallberg (accepted), £147 j M.
