ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.
A case of attempted suicide occurred at the National Hotel, Lambton Qnay, shortly before 11 o'clock last night, when a man named Alfred Freeman, aged 39, cut his throat with a razor. Drs Cahill, Henry, and Anson' were called in, and having dressed the man's wound ordered his removal to the hospital. They state that there is a deep wound in his throat, and that ho has lost a great quantity of blood, hut at present there are hopes of his recovery, Freeman, it appears, had for some months passed been managing a drapery store at Eketahuna, which position he had lately left, and about ten days ago ho came down to Wellington in company with his wife and put up at tho National Hotel. Tbelossof occupation had apparently preyed.on his mind, aud for the last two or three days he had Boeracd nervous and depressed, He is a native of Sydney, and is spoken of as being: of very sober habits,—rimes,
