Friday, Yesterday the first match of the cricket season was played, when a scratch match was played between the footballers and the cricketers, resulting in a win for the footballers, who made 85 while the cricketers only made 78.

On Saturday . the Carterton cricketers come here to play the homo eleven, when the following will represent I'cutherstoii :-Bennett, Langden, Kobertson, Worsley, Keys, Greatbatch, Sussex, Tocker, Douald, Jewell and Penny, On Sunday next Archdeacon McLean, of Wangimui, is to ])i r each here, and as he was a general favorite while incumbent of this parish, his visit is being looked forward to. This morning a horse and cart bolted from tho railway station and collided with a heap of firewood, capsizing the cart and breaking ono of the shafts. Tho installation of officers of St. Jolm's Lodge, No. 37, took place last evening, when the following officoiu wore installed:-Bros. J. T. Hodder,W.M.;H.O. Smith, S.W.; W. Hey wood, J.W.; Rev. T. Porritt, P.JI., Secretary; W, Toogood, Treasurer, A. Donald, S.D.j H. J. Unwin,J.D.;S.Cundy,l.G.;C.W. Keys, Tyler. The Grand Lodge was represented by the Grand Superintendent and JJro, McKay. Bro, T, Porritt acted as installing officer, assisted by tho Grand Superintendent, Tho other Lodges of the Wairarapa wero all represented, and afterwards over thirty sat dowii to a banquet, ' ,
