FIRE ON THE MARAROA.

Pout Ciui-MEiis, Wednesday, Afire broke out on board the i Mararoa tliiß morning while undergoing her periodical The flames had a good hold by the time the firemen arrived, but after an hour's battle the flames were subdued. 'About £ISOO damage was done. .
An hour before • the nightwatchman passed the vessel when ail was right.:- The Chief Officer was iu'ihis room at 6.30, when everything was apparently safe. Fireman Sliakesly, of the Port Brigade was seized with faintness, while working, in the Mararoa's engine-room, and died 011 reaching the deck,
