TENUI NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent,)
A most successful entertainment was given by the past and present scholars of the Tenui School on Friday evening last in thejiall in aid of the school funds. The hall was well filled, and the audience most enthusiastic. Every item of a good programme was capitally rendered, that showed the scholars ha'd been well trained by their master Mr Joplin, who was ably assisted by Mrs Joplin. The piece " Cock Robin " was well performed, the characterssustaining their parts in good stylo, Masters Power, "Sparrow,"' J. Collerton, " Gravedigger "W. Owen," Parson" and Miss Wickstead, "Thrush," being exceptionally good. I may say it was put on in character, and reminded one of a miniature opera. Thero were fifteen characters, and tho piece was interspersed with solos, choruses, and pretty marches done by the younger children, who wore pretty sashes. The stage was fitted up to represent a forest scene. The recitation " Trades" evoked much applause, each reciter being dressed in a neat workmanlike maimer, and carrying his tools, etc. Mr Jas. Owen's two songs were sung in fine style, tho piano and violin duet by Mrs Joplin and Mr O'Connor, and piano duets by Mr and Miss Nicholls, and Misses Knight and Nicholls, wereiwoll received, At the conclusion hearty cheers were given for Mr and Mrs Joplin, for putting on the boards an entertainment considered one of the best that has been held in the'district. Dancing was kept up till an early hour next morning, the music being supplied by Messrs Lawson, Perry, Southoy, O'Connor, and Mrs Lawson and Miss Nicholls, Mr Hancock acted as M.C. in his usual efficient way.
