FOOTBALL.
[By Damocks.] A meeting of the delegates to the Wairavapa Union is to be held at Carterton on Friday evening, when some importaut business will be discussed, and the team chosen to play against New South Wales on Tuesday next.
A general half-holiday has been declared in the South Wairavapa townships for the representative match at Masterton on Tuesday.
• " Jumbo " TJdy, who hns been associated with Greytown football for a great number of years has retired from tho field.
The following team will represent Wellington against Wairarapa on tbe 29th• Davidson, Duncan, R, Burke, Hunter, Bauinber, Pudnoy, Swindley, Young, Poland, Hyland, Campbell, Pringlo, Jack, Kelly and McKenzie, New South Wales ut, 1/1/est Coast Victory for the Visitors, Greymouiii, Thuisday. New South Wales dofeated . the combined team of West Coast, Grey and Hokitika combined yesterday by twenty points to six, The ground was dry and hard, which suited tho fast play of Now South Wales admirably, Their forwards played a magnificent game, and completely ran over their opponents, The winners scored fivo tries and one goal, and they bad no less than 14 good shots at goal, only one being kicked, West Coast scored two tries only. The superiority of physique and speed of New South Wales to the Coast men was most marked all through, and they averaged fully astone heavier all round, There were no accidents, the match being fairly good humored, About 2000 people were present, the Bninnerton and country contingents being unusually large. New South Wales are very anxious to win the remaining matches, and particularly tho Wairavapa one next week, none of tho North Island matches being as yet won by them.
