CARTERTON NOTES.
(From' Our Own-Correspondent.) 'v : ■-'■■' Tuesday. '■■ Mr Archibald Campbell died at his son's residence Carterton, yesterday, at the nge of 76 years. He was formerly Sergeant-Major in the 49th regiment and had served 24 yearn of sorvice, throe years, of it in tlio Chinese war under Lord Gougli. He was also Senior Sorgeant-Mujor of tlie Queon's Westminster Volunteers. Ho eamo out to New Zealand in 1873 and has resided in Carterton ever since. He was twico amomberoftlio Town Board and on the death of Captain Olclnnd was appointed adjutant and drill instructor to the Wairarapa Volunteers. He leaves six children and numerous grand children, one son being in charge of Mr W. G. Board's Carterton office. The Bishop of Nelson held a confirmation servico at St. Mark's Church last niodit. The building was crammed, extra seats being placed in the aisles. Thirty-four children and four adults were confirmed. Owing totho above the attendance at the Lyceum to witness tho porformanco of tlio Fakir ofOolu was small. He returns on Thursday.
