New Plymouth, Wednesday, A serious fire occurred at Stratford yesterday, when Curtis' store and buildings, in which wero Payne, watchmaker, Ralph, draper, and Gardiner, hairdresser, were destroyed. Tho fire broke out in Gardiner's, and was discovered by two of Curtis' employes, All efforts to extinguish tho fire were unavailing, and it soon spread southward to Smith's, grocer, Won Kee's,fruiterer, Ellis' chemist, County Council Office, Malone, solicitor, Hannah's, bootmaker, Taylor's draper, all of which were swept cleau away. Wil son's hotel was saved with difficulty. The insurances are Standard, £750 on Curtis' buildings, andstock £'loo, on next building alsq belonging to _ Curtis, £100; pn Gardiner's in Northern; £750 on Curtis' building and stocki n National; L2OO on Taylor's in South British; LSOO on Malones'; L 350 011 Won Kee's stock in the Now Zealand ; L7OO 011 Hannah's buildings and stock, Had there been any wind the wholo of tho Broadway must have gone.
