MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Ordinary Meeting. The regular fortnightly meeting of tlio Masterton Borough Council was bold last evening. Present: His Worship the Mayor, and Crs Djxon, Mutrie, Cullen, Bessey, Feist, Yates, Chamberlain and W. Pony, ' JIIXUTEB. Tlio minutes of the laet meeting were read and confirmed. I'EliltY STItEET. Dr. S. P, Beard wrote, giving notice to tlio Council to remove a certain fence inPorry-street. The Mayor said that the fence had docii put up for the public good, and ivas on Council property. The letter was Jaicl on tlio fobjo. FIUE BKIGADB SUED, Prom Captain Jones, asking if the Council had given permission to the Municipal Firo Brigade to removo a iheel to another position, contrary to 'he Borough By-laws, The building vas now a nuisance to him and his leighbours. Resolved to inform Mr Jones that lie Council intend to see that the ?iro Bvigado conform with the Byaws, . CJIAI'EL STREET, J Mr G._ S, W, Dalrymplo wrflte, fating if the Council proposed widening Chapel-street, he was willing to give a portion of his land on ; Town Acre 64, i Referred to the Street Widening ; Committee. GAi3 MANAGER. Mr Collins, the newly-appointed Gas Manager, wrote, asking if it would suit the Council if he left for Masterton 011 September 10th, Resolved that Mr Collins be allowed till this date, WORKS AXD FIXASCE. ' The report of the Works and Finance Committee was read and adopted. BECATED FRUIT, Cr Dixon asked if any officer had been 'appointed by the Council to examine the fruit exposed for sale, He bad noticed q, lot of decayed bananas on sale at a Chinaman's shop.. The Mayor said he thought it was fin)afte]. , fqr%'pql|ce, :" The Clerk read V by-law off,hp Council, making it an offence to expose anything for sale in the shape of food which was unfit for human consumption.. t Resolved that the attention of the Inspector' of Nuisances be called to the matter.
