Annual Meetinq.
' The annual meeting of members of the Masterton-OBaki Jockey Club was held last evening at the Club Hotel, the President (Mi-A. W. Cave) presiding. MINUTES. The minutes of the last annual meeting were read and confirmed, :■:■'" DEBENTURES.. Mr T. G. Mason wrote, reminding the Club of a promise that when debentures wore issued, the Club had promised to ballot out two, debentures each year. * : It was resolved, on tlie motion of Mr A. Walker, seconded by-Mr VaU lance, to ballot out two debentures this year. ~' '■'"'■' The ballot.was taken at the meet, ing, Messrs W. Mace and George Drummond being drawn, . . -TUBF REGISTER. ■ An application was received from the Ohristchurch Prut Company, asking the Club to take a copy of the new Turf Begister, and also to grant a subsidy. It was resolved that the Club does not seo its way to grant a subsidy. A copy of the Work has already been obtained.
STARTER. ' I Mr E. Roake wrote, asking to be , appointed starter to the Club. , At a later stage of the meeting, a i ballot resulted in the appointment • of Mr T. Hill. ' TREE PLANTING. ' , Messrs Davidson and Co, wrote, stating that understanding the Club intended te plant the course, the firm would be pleased to supply plants,. The letter was received, and it was decided to leave it to the incominjj committee to deal with. IIAUNCE SHEET, The balance sheet for the year ended July 315t,1894,was submitted showing Bank balance at the commencement of the year, £64 receipts, £111413s £lO6l 18s lOd; balance £11615s lid. The total (including mortgage) £167319s 6d, and £l9lßlßs 3d,. ■. . Mr Chamberlain the course was set worth £1,500.. It £2,000. This, however, wUH Club's favor, if not in the lessee's. The balance sheet was adopted. The Secretary pointed out that a largo amount had been expended in improvement lastyear,aud a portion of this, now became an asset of the Club. EMOTION OP OFFICERS. •■ Mr A. W. Cave was re-elected President of the Club, and returned thanks for tho honor received, The other officers were elected as follows:—Secretary, Mr E. H. Walker, E, Chamberlain, T.D. Thompson,H.Yates, W.Cameron, 0. Cowper, W. Hawke, W. B, Buick, T. E, Chamberlain, and W.j i J, Hirschberg, handicap™,, • 1 It was resolved to invite applicaj tions for the position of handicapper. ! .The Secretary and Messrs Vallance, Chamberlain, Yates, and A, , Walker wore appointed a committee i to deal with tho appointments, PROGRAMME. Messrs Yates, Walker, -T. .D. \ Thompson, Cowper, 0. F. Vallance, i and the President were appointed to l draw up a programme for the Club's ' next race meeting. wiintino. The President, Secretary.and Mr A. Walkor wore appointed a Committee to deal with printing, ; new memiieus, Messrs John Harvey, W. Watson, A, Fraser, F. Hiley, Angerstoin, D. Macintosh, Donald MoKenzie, C. B. Pratt, Manihera Maaka, S. Caiman, aud F. Holloway were elected new members. THE METROPOLITAN Ml. The President stated that Mr Waddington and himself had been te Wellington, andthe Metropolitan Club had informed them that the rumours with reference to cutting off the Masterton-Opaki Club's meofangs —or, in fact, any other Club's meet-ings-were quite, unofficial, the Stewards'for the year not having yot been appointed. It was resolved that the President and Secretary, if necessary, visit Wellington again, to make any. explanation required in tho interests of the Club, ; A RACING FOIST. Mr W. B. Buiclc proposed that the Club's definition of a hack, "bea horsethat has not won a stako of over £4O, Hack and Hunter races excepted."* :' The President thought they had better stick to the old definition. Mr.Buick contended that his motion would tend to increase the numbor of entries.
MrVallance moved, as an amendment, that the old definition " that a hack means a horse that has never started for or is not nominated at time of entry for any race, Hack or 'Hunter races excepted," be adhered to. ' . I
The amendment was seconded by Mr EYates and carried,
THE COt/BSE. Mr T. D. Thompson asked that the plough at the course bo opened to workhorses in training, He was aaked to speak on behalf of an owner. The President pointed out that last year this resulted in aloss of £l7 to the Club..
The Secretary explained that as the Oval was unfenced, damage was also done to Mr Chamberlain's crops, This had to be considered in dealing with the question, Mr A, Walker moved that the Secretary enquiro the cost of erecting a fence round tho Oval from tho Secretary of the Taratahi-Carterton Club ''■ ' ■.
Several members spoke of the hardship inflicted on owners by having ho place to train on, unless the plough was thrown open, ■;. MrMacara moved that owners be allowed to use the plough only, for a fortnight, Mr Christie to take: the responsibility of any damage and ,; if at the end of that time everything is satisfactory, the permission :be extended and if any galloping on the turf takes place the course immediately Mr Vallauco seconded the motion.
