GREYTOWN NOTES.

1 Friday. The weather has onco raoro set in wet, mid to-day it is very rough and stormy. A contingent of the Darktown Band drove round the town and suburbs yesterday afternoon iu a spring dray and played "selections" en rouk The "get up" was most peculiar, and they all acted their parts aB clowns immensely, and had tho desired effect, viz,, of inducing a large number to turn out in the evening to patronise tho concert. The torchlight procession Inst night was a great success, aud the Darktowncrs and their Band aro to complimented for the way iu which they managed the affair from start to finish. Tho concert was t success both financially and otherwise mid the whole of tho "duffer" talent acquitted themselves admirably. The promoter of the affair, Mr J. K. Homblow, is to bo highly congratulated for tho way in which he worked tho concert up, nor must I forgot to mention tho nblo assistance ho received from tho Brigade members. The Mayor (Mr J, D. Hcagorty) presided and gave a very neat speech in which ho spoke in Haltering terms ofthoßrigado's usefulness On account of Mrs Butcher's illness Miss Gallagher, Mrs H. Hawke, and Mr J. Lewis played tho various accompaniments, Mr George Humphries won tho first prize (best singer) a large cake. Mr D. Cameron, senr,, (worst singer) second prize, lib tobacco and was honored with a pretty bouquet, Mr It, Hall, senr, (best song) his prize being a pipe, The judges were Messrs Gant, Soydhouse, Grant and Bowse. The following wero tho items;— Band overture, chorus by Duffers; song, Mr Cook; negro recitation, Mr L, Keys,; song, John O'Connor, junr., (encored); song, Mr G. Humphries (encored); song, Mr D Cameron, senr.; song, Mr Adams; song, Mr G. Bragging (encored); song, MiBath (encored); song, Mr Clnytou (encored); song, with clogs, MrMoorc; iluto duct, Mr and Master Lewis; 1 song, Mr Davis (encored); song, Mr ■ J. Maguire, junior; song, Mr F, Hawke (encored); Darkey duet, Messrs H, Hawke and E, Hobman; song,Mi'Norrie; song, Mr Cook; song, Mr E. Hall; song, MrOlayton; song. Mr P, Hawke; song, Mr Braggins; song, Mr Groves. The attendance was largo and takings very satisfactory.
