'■ : Ordinary Meeting. Tho regular fortnightly mooting of tho Masterton Borough Council was hold last ovening. Present: His Worship tho Mayor and Crs Hornblow, Hcsscy, Dixon, Yates, Cullen, Foist, Chamborlain, and Perry, ■ji'ixutbs. The minutes of tho last ordinary and special meetings, were read and confirmed, COI-OMIIO ItOAD. Mr G. W, Woodrooffo wroto calling attention to the unhealthy and dangerous state of about four chains of tho Colombo Road, owing to wator holes, J. C, Ingram wroto stating that stagnant water was a nuisance in the locality named, Resolved that tho matter be referred to tho Works Committeo'with power to act. fikk ixsiwroii. At tho request of tho Volunteer Firo Brigade, CaptainPaynowas appointed a Eiro.lnspeotor. I'KRRY STIIKKT WIDKXt.VG. A petition was received from several residents of Perry Street, praying the Council to widen the street, and offering land for the purpose, Resolved that tho petition bo referred to tho Street Widening Committee already appointed. KKI'OIITS. The report of the AVorks and Finance Committee was read and adopted. AIMOGY. An apology was received from Cr. Mutrie for absence, OItMXAIIV. Cr Cullen asked that instructions ' he given to tho Overseer to chip up the grass in Wrigley Street, ' Cr Hornblow said that at last ' meeting he Imd made a mistake in ; I mentioning Villa Street instead of Bently Street, A right-of-way was necessary between Bentley Strectand I Hope Street, now that the Waipoua ' had encroached. The Council owned ' a sixty-foot right-of-way, and he would move that the matter bo re- ' ferred to thu Works Committeewith ' power to do certain metalling.— '. Carried. •
Cr Hornblow drew attention to tho bad state of the road at the corner of Archer and Church Streets. Tho Mayor said there werosoveral places just as bad, owing to the continued wet weather. They had to be moderate in their expenditure. WAU'OUA BIVKII. Cr Feist asked if any report had been- received from Mr J, King re Wnipona protection, The Clerk stated that no report had been rccoived. HIIKWCOD. Tenders for the supply of firewood to the Council for twelve months, were received ns follows:—for 2ft matai, at por cord:—C. Christiansen, 21s; Edward Dixon, 14s; H. J Toon, 1&; Creelman, 13s; J, Topping, 14s; H.Vaughau, 15s; J. Gilpin, Jss6d. Cr Joist moved that tho tender of H.J. Toon,the lowest tenderer, be accepted. Cr Dixon asked if the tenderer was capablo of carrying out the contract, Cr Yates said Toon had been carting firewood for some years, to his knowledge The Mayor said it was a starvation price It had been tho custom to accept the lowest tender, but this seemed too low. Cr Hessey agreed withtho Mayor's view. Cr Hornblow moved, as an amendment, that the tender of J. Creelman bo accepted, Cr Hornblow's amendment was seconded and carried on division, HUB BIIIOADES. Cr Hornblow gave noticcof motion to resc'iid a resolution of the Council, calling upon the Municipal Eire Brigade to comply fully with the building regulations with regard to the removal of tho Band Shed, Other matters referring to the Gas Works Management wero dealt with ns reported elsewhere, and on the motion of Cr Yates, the Council adjourned,
