SUICIDE AT KAIWARRA.
A Woman Hangs Herself.
A distressing rase of suicide occurred «t Kniivarra last night. Jl appears that about 10 p.m. Mr John Gardiner. butcher, who lives with Jus wife and lamily a short distance up the old I'orirua road, went into the wash-house ( 0 get some wood, when, on striking a match, he saw his eldest (laughter, Margaret Eleanor, hanging by a rope I from a rafter. He at once cut her down, and sent for Dr. Collins, who came with all expedition, lml life had evidently been extinct for some considerable time. The suicide was of a most determined character. The rope used was a piece of lliin clolhes-line,|:t double loop of which was round the unfortunate girl's neck, and to effect hcrobjerl she had evidently thrown herself from a bench used to piil the washing tubs on. When found lier feet were within a foot of the ground, and it is conjectured she had tacit hanging there about an liour. '-the parents of the young woman, who was only 2:} years of age, arc of opinion that religious mania was the cause of the rash act. About twelve months ago she became a cadet of the Salvation Army, and since then it has been noticed that she had become very despondent, and would sit dunking for hours at a time.
