MASTERTON HOSPITAL BALL.
The second annual, ball rn.eonnccti'on with'tho Masterton Hospital, was hold<lasfcnigl{t, ! ahd. proved one of tho largest and most onjoyable gatherings 'ever' held ia Mastei'tori. Tho attendance was even b'oyond the expectations of tho iCpmmitteOcan imusnally; :largo number: of «vi6itprs being present, the Forfcy-milo Bush', and Lower I ''Valley "districts being particularly well represented. ; The Drill Hall wa's ; tastefully decorated; but care was taken; at the same time to give all possible spaco for dancing] and l to; assist this tho'Trimuerdnco Hall had been fitted up as a supper.; room, with r a.hmg .covered way, lead-; ing to it. Tho floor iyas in very good condition and the best of music was contributed '.by, .the'; Masterton Orchestra, under ,the leadership of Mr A. von Koisenberg,, visitors' particularly, speaking iiv high terms of'tho cxcollent time .and the' tasto displayed in the selection 1 of tk; piccos played. : . ,! ~ : ;; Tho supper-robin was a sight'worth seeing. Hugopjlesofevery delicacy; imaginable,' collected? from all over the district, andteinptinglydisplaycd on tables running tho. wholo length of the Temperance Hall, gavo one the, impression, that preparations 'had been made .for, the advent of two or tlireo regiments, ami hungry ones at; that, It was decidedly ono of the largest, spreads ; Masterton has. ever seen. From tho opening of the pro-: gramme until the last dance every- ; thing went well and smoothly, and everybody seemed to bo going inmost heartily for enjoyment. Without a: doubt the ball of last evening must' bo pronounced "a huge success." This fact is certainly duo to the part taken by a huge, ami inlluential, ladies' committoe, many of whom, devoted a great deal of time in arranging the.supper-tnble and looking, after m'unyjninor matters, without which even-thing would not have been perfect. Where all did so much, it would be invidious to singlo out individuals, but we cannot help noticing the fact ■ that Mcsdaihcs J. C. Boddington, T. Jago, A. Mutrie, Nicol, Taylor, R. P. Temple. A. 13.' Yntcs, and Solor, and' the joint 'secretaries—Jtisses Nicol and Bodding-ton-were especially prominent, and took more than a full share of tho lnml work. Mv T. Jago helped a good deal with tho decorating, and Mr W. Scllar (secretary to the Hospital) was, of course, indispensible, the clerical work being ably carried out by him. Wemnst not forget to mention that extra dances were kindly played by Miss P. Lowes and Messrs W. Williams and Dumarosq, mid that the arduous duties of M.C.'s were satisfactorily performed by Messrs W. Lowes, A. JN T . Norton, 6. A. Pownall and Dr, Douglas. Altogether Masterton Hospital Ball was a credit to tho district, and will long bo remembered by all who were present,
