Sixpenny Concert
The sixpenny Concert hold in the Wcslcyau Schoolroom last evening was a most successful affair, The room was crowded with anatleutivo and appreciative audience, every item being loudly applauded. Tlie Masterton Orchestra opened with an overturo and deserve special mention for the manner in which tliey rendered this item and also for tho selections which materially contributed to tho success of tho concert. Mr It. C. Black followed with "The Mighty Deep," which herondered in good stylo. A recitation by Mr R, A. Davys, "The Lifeboat" was the next item, and provoked hearty applause. " Ever of Thee," by Miss Gran was well received, and a violin solo byMastor A. Elkins was also much appreciated. The next item, " Tho Death of Nelson," by Mr S. H. Ralph, with nccompair*ment by the Masterton Orchestra, was considered tho gem of tho evening, and brought forth a hearty oncoro, Miss Pearson followed with a pianoforte solo, played with much taste and execution, Tho treble tonguing cornet solo by Mr T, Gray was deservedly appreciated, It was followed by " Tho Romany Lass," fromMrT. J.Rowso, and "Nazareth" by Mr R. C. Black, both of which created a very favourable impression among the audience. Tho next item on tho programme was a selection by the Masterton Orchestra. Mr It. Gant followed with " Good Company," delivered in his usual good style. Misses Perry and Williams then ployed a piano duet "Marcho Hongroise." ThesongbyMrT. J. Rowse, "David Singing beforo Saul," was, porlinps, the finest rendering of that famous melody that lias been heard in Masterton, and was enthusiastically encored. "Tho Children's Bower," by Miss Perry, was sung with much sweetness, and the a trio "The Wreath," by Messrs Black, Gant and. Rowsc, was a thorough success. The very attractive programme was brought to a conclusion by the sing- , i»g of the National Anthem.
