(From Our Own Correspondent), Monday. Mr Birkctt, of Makuri, lias disposed of liis property to Messrs Willoughby, and contemplates taking a trip to the Old Country. A meeting was lield at MangatainoH last week, the attendance, i)i consci|uenoo of its being a private affair, was very limited, and only (ilxmta dozen wo present, and those the leading spirits of that district; Mr P. J. Murphy presiding. Mr Hftll,M.H.R, of Woodvillc, attended. It appeal's the object of the gathering was to discuss the various requirements of the township, and also to selectcandidates for recommendation to be placed on the Commission of tlio P«icu._ Amongst other things the necessity for a Post Office and also a constable for Mangataiiroto are to be urged upon the Government, Messrs Murphy, Kemper and Barrel were recommended for appointments as Justices of the Peace.
