Everything wns all riglitwhenthcTown Boardadjourned at 9 o'clock last night, The door of tho office was locked by the custodian shortly before half-past nine, yet when one of tho carpenters ongagedon tho Town Hall went to try and got in, he found the door open, The of both Boards were got out of (lie lire. That belonging to the Town Board was opened, and books saved, Tho building was insured for cighty.fivo pounds iu the Victoria office. ( Further particulars aro as follows The firo seems to haw originated close to the partition which divided the inner office from tho Board room. After some time tho safes of tho two Boards were extricated fiom the lire, and as that of tho Town Board seems to have suffered most, it was deemed expedient to burst it open and save what books they could from its inside. The books were terribly scorched, and some loose papers wero burnt. It is not known yet how the contents of the lioad Board safe lias fared, but a lot of valuable papers which wero not- in the safes of the two Boards, have been destroyed, It is stage that the Treasurer posilively asserts that he placed the rate in the safe last night after tho niecting, yet is wi)s not there when the pafo\yas forced opon, This must bo tho work of an incendiary, as there was no tiro lighted last evening, as it was rather a warm night, find, as luck would have it, there was no 1 wind at the time of tho lire, Had anything caught fire while the meeting was proceeding last evening, it would hardly linvo smouldered till after live o'clock this morning.
