We anticipated tho result of the Town Lauds Trust election so far as to express a belief that tho least eligible candidate would come to tho top. While wo are gratified to see Mr Keuall selected we are sorry to see a veteran public servant like Mr Gapper displaced, not that he himself was anxious for re-election, but becauso it was in the interests of the town that his services should be retained, During the sixteen years we have published a journal in Masterton we have always recommended the return of the best and fittest candidates irrespective of party considerations, and we shall always do so, oven though the candidates we may support be in a minority, We are certainly not in accord with the registered opinion of a very considerable number of voters, who returned Mr A, Vile yesterday, though we do not doubt that Mr A. Yileis quite worthy of tho support whioh they have given him,
