DEPUTATION TO THE RAILWAY COMMISSIONERS.

Welhnoton, Thursday, A deputation from the Agricultural Conference waited on the Commissioners this morning, and brought under notice a number of matters affecting the farming community. Mr Grigg asked for a reduction on the rates of produce and the carriage of stock, especially sheep, He suggested that special trains should be run, liko those between Addington and Dunediu, He also asked that trucks might be built like those on the Manawatu line.
Mr McKerrow said these trucks were not approved by the southern sheep owners, and sheep carrying was not so profitable as Mr Grigg inferred. If they had reduced rates to half, it would bo a dead loss, _ Mr Grigg asked for free passes for judges, but the Commissioners deprecated the idea.

Mr Buchanan, M,H,R,, pointed out that the coming Australian competition in meat—which might be very seriqus—behoved the Commissioners fo do their best to help producers. Ojihei; members urged' that short distauoo rates for prqdudY shqijlf} be reduced, and sheep carried at the same rates as cattle.
Mr McKerrow promisod that all the points raised should have careful consideration,
