FEATHERSTON NOTES.
(Prom Our Own Correspondent), Thursday. Messrs Tait and E. Cox lmd a narrow escape from a nasty accident yesterday. They wo driving a spring trap with a pair of horses. Tho step of the trap seeraß to have touched one of the horses a cquple qf times and given it a bit of a start, The pair started off, and in trying to negotiatea sharp turn, the trap overturned, and the occupants were both thrown out, fortunately without any damagd to themselves, and only tho breaking of a shaft and a couple of boards of the trap, Henry H. Carpenter was charged on remand yesterday, before Messrs Beynoldsand Cox, J.P.'s, withlmving. received £2 17b 6d fromH. Standen, knowing the san\e to be stolen property. The charge against Standen for house-breaking was withdrawn, owing to his having been sent to the Industrial School till he is twentyone, for a similar offence in Wellington. Carpenter was fined £2, to be paid in a fortnight, in default soven days' imprisonment, There is no improvement in the weather, tho rain continues to come down steadily; the railway station is still surrounded by -water. The rivers continue to riso; and yesterday isernoo.n there was every appearance of a flood down at Kahautara. Mr W. Bock has opened a temporary office in the old refreshment room at Featherston railway station,
