AGRICULTURAL CONFERENCE.
Important Resolutions. (By Telegraph—Press Association), Wellington, Thursday. The following resolutions were passed yesterday afternoon: - "That in the opinion of this Conference the charges npon stock subject to quarantine Bhould he reduced." "It is desirable that a better system for collecting and disseminating information on agricultural, pastoral and othor industries connected with the soilj' should be adopted, on fhe lines of the Agricultural Bureau of South Australia." " That this Conference recognises the great importance of providing some means of circulating information relating to agricultural and pastoral subjects, and will heartily support any publication in a magazine form, being subject to tho supervision of tho agricultural and pastoral associations to consider tho advisability of carrying out experiments as to the most suitable manures for their districts, and to carry out all other experiments in the interests of the farming community," "That every available means be used to encourage the dehorning of calves, and that the Department be asked to publish a leafletillustrating the simplest and most effective methods of procedure." " The suitability of this Colony for producing frozen meat of the highest quality for the London market, and in view of the keen competition likely to arise from Australian find elsewhere, makes it very necessary that all information available as to. the breeds of cattle and sheep best calculated to provide a suitable article for export should be disseminated, for, with our highpriced land, it will not pay to produce a sccond-rato of any kind." "That in view of the want of systematic action in the poisoning of" 6mall birds, clauses be introduced into the Small Birds Act compelling united action," "That the fundamental rules of theagri cultural associationsthroughout the Colony should be made uniform," Wellington, Thursday. At tho Conference this morning Mr Gray (Woodend) read a paper on " Diseases in Sheep," after which it was resolved that the Government should take steps to secure the services of a,scientific expert in order to assist the settlers in the prevention and euro 'of disoase in stock, Mr Overton moved that it be a recommendation from the Conference to the Agricultural Department to ask by public advertisement, farmers and runholders who are troubled with apparent diseases among their flocks, to set apart certain portions of their lands and somo of the affected sheep, in order that they in districtin which disease exists, may be treated by Government Veterinary under supervision of the stock owiler. The proposal was agreed to. The proposal to hold an Intercolonial A. and P, Conference was rejected. It was decided that the next Conference of N.Z, delegates be held within two years, and at Dnnedin,
