Weuixgtox, Tuesday. , The Agricultural Conference | opened to-day, fifty-seven delegates being present, representing thirty- . five associations, rf The Minister of Lauds wrote, re, } greeting his inability to be present, nud stating that the resolutions of ■ the conference would have his most j careful consideration, ] MvH". Overton (Canterbury) ,-wlio j acted as Chairman at last Conference, | welcomed the delegates. He explained j that the Secretary had completed i information, showing that potatoes ( could not be grown in.the colony, at ( sud prices as would make ( farina industry profitable, He , warned them that it was evident they must face keen competition in frozen ] meat from Australia, but there was | no need to fear either the exhaustion , of the supply, nor deterioration of f quality, ' , The butter industry was now , under a cloud, but he had reason to believe that.a satisfactory milking ( machine would be shortly invented. ] He thought grain would have to be f grown in future more for consump- j tionupon laud by stock, than for J exportation. • At the conclusion of tlio address Mr W.
