SIR GEORGE GREY VISITS THE HOUSE OF LORDS.
A Flattering Reception,
On Monday afternoon Sir George Grey visited the House of Lords in company with Lord Stamford, says the London correspondent of the 'S.Z.Jms, After inspecting tho Librmyhewos conducted to the Princes' Chamber, where he met Lord Hobhonse, and had a short conversation, By thegraceof the House Sir Gcorge>was then permitted to occupy a seat on tho steps of the throne in the Peers' Chamber, an honour only accorded to members of the Privy Council, Princes of tho Blooc], and very high officers of Stato Here he was cordially greeted by Lord Jersoy and Lord Onslow the ex-Governors of New South Wales and New Zealand. Lord Ripon was introduced to him at his own request, and treated him with very marked respect, Lord Knntsford', with whom Sir George was personally acquainted in former years also engaged in conversation with him. Lord Kimberley was introduced by the Marquis of Ripon, and they had a friendly chat, the interview possessing a peculiar significance because' many years ago serious differences of opinion existed between them on questions of colonial policy. Another peer who greeted Sir Gcorgo with warmth watsq hostile.to him many years ago -J|t he threatened Sir George with impeachment at the bar of the House. Lord Rosebery, observing a distinguished stranger on the steps of the throne, requested to bo introduced, and had a long private conversation with the " Grand Old Man" of the South. He was also very cordially greeted by the Marquis of Salisbury, Lords Rokewood, Colcheater, KenßiTigton, Norton, Pkyf air and several others, Haying partaken or'wWwrot'in tto tea-wow, Sir
Georgo loft the House of Lords .at 6 o'clock, and returned to the Hotel Motropole,
