TO THE DRAPERY TRADE OF NEW ZEALAND

Important Bwinm Change. [From the Cliristchurch" Press," May 16th,4894] An important change in the commercial circlqs of the- colony was consummatedyesterday, whenMesßrs Mwards, Bennett and Co, sold for prompt cash their drapery stocks in Chritschurch,' Dunedin and Napier, to Mr Alfred Tyree, of Lichfieldstreet Mr Tyree, who is well-known in Cliristchurch, on being interviewed on the subject of the change recorded above, stated that he had acquired the whole of the large stock of Messrs Edwards, Bennett and Co. at a very satisfactory figure. Tho result of this would be that he could now offer to the trade some unexampled linos and bargains in all departments of drapery, etc. Tho great sale of Messrs McArthur and Co.'s stock in Auckland recently concluded with Messrs Sargood,-Son and Bwen has been the talk of the North Island for some time past. "I intend," said Mr Tyree," to make the sale of Messrs Edwards, Bennett and Co.'s stock in Christehurch quite as much an event in the trade as that one. The stock is all in good order, has been carefully bought, and comprises all the numerous lines usually found in the stock of a large wholesale house. These are far too numerous for me to particularise, but I may mention that the stock includes dress goods, carpets and furnishings, blankets, i calicoes, flannelettes and flannels, damasks, linens, hosiery and haberdashery, clothing, woollens and tweeds, and ladies' underclothing. The warehouse will be closed, as notified elsewhere, for the purpose of arranging for the gigantic salo whicli 1 have been explaining, and which will take place, I think, about the first week in June. The. 6tock isanoxceeding lioavy and variod one, and will take some littlo time to arrange for the buyers, but I shall do all I can to be ready to commence the sale about the date I have mentioned. Every facility will be afforded to the trade to inspect the stock, which will be so arranged as to be easily seen, and thus the sale, which will bo one of the largest of the kind ever carriod out hero, will be conducted with the utmost despatch, so as not to entail any unnecessary loss of time on buyors. I have been fortunate enough to secure the services of the whole of the large staff of the firm, and thus the goods will be handled by those well acquainted with them, and who also arc known to the customers."
