Monthly Meeting, The regular monthly meeting of the Masterton School Committee wis held last evening. Present: Messrs W. G. Beard-fi Awhair), T. Dixon," W. PrangnellflTWagg, Z. M. Hoar, W. M. Eastliope, W. Morris, O.E, Daniell, The Chairman (Mr E t Feipt) came in; at a later stage. " MINUTES.' ' The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. treasurer's retort. The Treasurer reported a credit at date of® 14s 2d. SCHOOL REQUIREMENTS. The Secretary of the Education Board , wrote regretting that the Board could not supply the furniture for the Teachers' retiring room asked for, owing to the lack of funds, Mr Eastliope said that in a con-, versation with Mr McCardle be had learnt that the.BoardhatUjmkd to believe that' had a credit of thought the Boai^^^^^^H tho^ppmn^^H sented the application, move that Mr McCardle be mitten to and asked to place the Committee's true financial position before the Board, After discussion tho motion was put and lost. A further letter from the Board was read, stating that clocks could not be supplied for each class-room. SCHOOL CLEANING. M. J, Symes wroto tendering his resignation as school cleaner from June Ist, owing to bis contemplated removal from the town, ,- The resignation was accepted and it was decided to invite tenders for the position, retorts; The Head Teacher reported 586 children on the roll with au average attendance of 474. Owing to the prevalence of colds, the attendance bad fallen off. A scraper, new mats and more bat pegs were required, and the blackboards needed recoatW . On the motion it was resolved the articles required, with tho exception of the scraper, which tho Board is asked to supply, infants' school, Miss' Keeling reported the average attendance to be 77 with 109 on the roll. About 18 children have been absent through illness, this accounting for the low average. accounts. The following accounts were passed for payment: M. J. Symes Is 6d; R, 15. Hornblow, 7s. FUNDS. Mr Daniell asked tlio prospective position of the funds. Tho Chairman explained that nothing mora was due until June 30th, when capitation would be paid. , Mr Daniell thought if possible . something slidhld be expended ii; furnishing the retiring room. i The Chairman said it seemed tc him that a special effort would have ■ to be made, as their ordinary funds | would not permit the expenditure, The amount required was about ; £lO. After some further discussion Mi [ Daniell moved that Mr Feist and Mi ; Beard make up an estimate of tin ' requirements for the year, and draw 1 up a requisition to tho Town Landi Trustees asking for a grant. Thi motion was carried, ABSENTEE LIST. Mr Daniell said that the Secretary could, in his opinion, deal with tin absenteo list. He would move thai in future the Head Master report tc tho Secretary, and ho he empowered to deal with all cases, subject to the approval of the chairman. Mr Beard seconded and the motion was carried. . VISITING itEMIIEIt. Mr T, Dixon was appointed visiting member and the meeting closed.
