Post Office and Courthouse.

The plans of the new post office and courthouse for Pahiatua are now to be seen at the local post office. The plan of the courthouse shows a really,palatial building with a street frontage of 60 feet, The main entrance is in the centre through a a handsome portico into a wide hall, from each end of which spacious corridors ran down the building, Opposite the ontrauce door is a door leading into the courtroom, which is a very spacious room indeed, and which will he fitted in a very convenient manner, with justices'bench, clerk's box, dock, tables, jury forms, witness-box, etc. Doors in one of the corridors open into the S.M.'s room and the clerk's loom, in the latter of which will be a strong room. The other corridor gives entrance to lawyers' room, witnesses' room, and office of the stock department. The arrangements thoughout promise a building at once ornate and convenient. Mr Geo, C, Stevenson is the architect.

The post office plan also shows a handsome building with a frontage to Main-street. A-Verandah in the •front runs partly round the building, the general entrance being at the corner. The private box lobby is situated at the end of the verandah away from the public lobby. The delivery counter is to be six feet in width. The mail room is large and convenient, its dimensions being 44 feet 3 inches by 21 feet. The postmaster's room, 14ft x lOct, is situated at the cud of tbo verandahs A telephone -room, 10ft x 10ft, is situated at one end of the mail room, The public office is 18ft by 10ft and the posting boxes are at one end of the verandah. The mail room is well lighted with six windows. The frontage to Main-street is 44ft and to King-streot 28ft. Mr E. R, McGregor is the architect for the post office. Tenders for both build;ings close on June 7lh. The post olee is to bo completed within ten weeks, and the courthouse within twelve weeks from the date of acceptance of teijd.crs,—Pahiatua Herald.
