Masterton Mutual Improvement Society.

Last oveningtheWesleyan Schoolroom was well filled to bear a lecture by Drßutement, under the auspices of the above Society. Mr W. M. Easthope occupied the chair, and in introducing the lecturer mentioned that the Society had been'successful in securing promises from several other gentlemen who would deliver lectures on various subjects, during the session, The lecturer, who was received with applause, then commenced his lecture on tbo " Circulation of the Blood," which he illustrated by diagrams. The lecture was highly interesting and descriptive of the various changes which the blood passes through in performing itf work. Its function were dealt with, and the lecturer mentioned that the blood of an adult was equal to t thirteenth part of the weight o: the body, and that in two minute the blood passed through the bean five times. An interesting descrip tion of the notion of the heart was adequately dealt with by the lecture: and its relation shown t'o the nerves Space will not permit us doinj ample justice- to the address, bu suffice it to say it was very interest ing as well as instructive, and tin Society must ho congratulated oi having secured Dr Butement's ser vices. Such lectures as these tend t cultivate the public mind and we ar glad to see them receiving such hearty support. At the conclusion of Drßutement' lecture the chairman asked tlio Di to explani the science by which th medical profession became posscsse of their knowledge as regards th inner workings of thesystem.
