The weather is glorious for the Aknra Races to-day, and crowds of people ate wending their way to tho course. At tho present timo tkero are considerably over five hundred people 011 the ground, tho majority of whom aro natives and strangers to the district. Tho Papawai Native Band is in attondanco, and their playing is very creditable. The races were late in starting owing to no scales being on the ground. The officials are all working hard to make tho races a success, It was 1 o'clock before the first race was run. First Hawaiki Hurdle Handicap. 93. P. P. Taiicml's Oddfollow, 10st 61b (Collins) 1 99. W. B, Buick's Pikihuia, 9st 131b (Buckeridge) 2 8. G. Olsen's Giraffe, 9st 51b 3 Kaitara, Empress, 'l'aratahi, ,Toe also ran, MakoMakowas scratched.

Time, 3min 3sec. 266 oil machine; 93 on winner. A very had start was made, Empress and Kaitara being left at the post. Oddfellow and Pikakuia raced neck and neck past the post the first time. Then Oddfellow came away,and won as he liked. Giraffe came into second place, but fell over the last hurdle, Pikahuia running clean over tho jockey without hurting him,
