PAHIATUA NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent,) Saturday. Still anothor auctioneering firm for Pahituo 1 A Woodville firm is negotiating for a sito to erect sale < yards here, and with their advent we shall havo throe firms doing business. Truly this must be h lar«e district and the trade gigantic to warrant three auctioneering firms, as North and South Wairarapa aro each content to be served by one firm. The main street, Pahintua, is receiving a lot of attention from the Borough, The staff are all engaged spreading metal, stone breaking, giving it a good covering preparatory to the Pabiutua winter, The width of our main street (three chains) is a Source of great expense to keop it in ° tder '
The question of sanitation is quite list sight of here, and a serious outbreak of fever at any lirje would not surprise me in the least. At the rear of many buildings—such as boarding houses, Chinese stores, etc., the accumulation of filth and rubbish and (lie sieneli arising therefrom is some thing fearful and appalling, and behoves the residenu to take immediate steps to.have the nuisance abated. You hare been slightly misinformed us to the rate at which land is selling in the North Tirauraea Road, when you say Mr Reichenbach lias sold his farm to Mr Carles at £l2 per acre. As a matter of fact it has been leased for a term of yeais with purchasing clause, at £ll per acre, Land adjacent to Pahiatoa and suitable for dairy farming commands very high figures, the existence of three dairy factories in the district causing a big demand for small dairy farms.
