HOSPITAL BALL AT GREYTOWN.

A Brilliant Success,

Last evening the annual Hospital Ball, which is deservedly looked upon as trie event of the year in Sooth Wairarapa, was held at the Palace Hall, Greytown, ond for a distinct success, both socially and financially, fairly outrivalled its well-remembered predecessors, From dusk to dark the many thoroughfares to Iho north, south, east and nest of Groytown were lined with vehicles of everydescnption, about the hour of eight o'clock the town itself presenting an unusually lively appearance, and the livery and private stables being taxed to their utmost capacity. These annual socials are gaining in popularity year by year, and tho Committee of Management must haro felt highly pleased to see such a representative gathering assembled last evening, Every nook and corner of the Wairarapa bad its party ready and willing to take a share in tho gay festivities, but it is a noticeable fact that comparatively few of the townspeople of Groytown itself took an active part in the proceedings, contenting themselvei with a view of the festive circle from the gallery. The large majority of dancers were from different portions of the district, and Masterton as usual sent quite a large number to the scene of action. Fully three hundred people occupied the spacious floor during the evening, and nearly as many looked down on the proceedings from above. Under tbe capable management of Mr F. H. Wood, tbe nflyer-tiring Secre lary, and an excellent Committee, everything passed off pleasantly, and the immense orowd whirled around to their heart's content till the early hours of the morning. The arrangements were perfect, and the M.G'e, (Messrs McK6nzie,Bnght and Wood), kept the fun going fast and furious, from start to finish, The music was far above the average, and created a most favourable impression, Mr W. Morton (01 Wellington) presided at tho piano, and provid himself quite an adept at danur mußic. He waß ably assisted by Messrs Varob&rn (bass), Lundquißt! (violin), and Maguire (cornet). looked.-t'jrefe Mu&faDJFtM Decoration Commmoo are certainly to be congratulated upon the result of their labors, The refreshment department was under capable supervision Mesdamea Tally, Hodge, Cotter, Wood, Fuller, MoMaster, and Burob taking every caro that visitors were well entertained, After a well arranged programme of some twentyfour dances had been completed, several pxtra.fl werepjayed by and tho crowd were loth to leave tbe scene of gaiety. The Hospital will materially benefit by. tho result of last night's ball, andthelCommitteeareto be complimented nil round for the brilliant success whico attended their efforts, ■ >/
