Choip Social. .A farewell aooial to Mr and Mrs James Aitken was given by the choir last night, the attendance being large. Musicul items wero rendered, and various gxmen engaged m. After refreshments too Bev. J. Dukes said; " We are met to-night to entenain Mr and Mrs Aitkeo, in a quiet, social way and to give expression on the ove of their departure from Maeterton to tho respect and esteem we have for them, I am quite sure that I voice tho sentiments of all, when I say that we are exceedingly Horry that the state of Mrs Aitken'fl health necessitates their removal from Masterton. Mrs Aitken, during her connection with the choir, always served its interests to the extent of—if not at limes beyond her strength. Mr Aitken has been a most active, willing and efljoient member of the choir; both in (he particular part he has taken as a tenor,and in the faithful and painstaking discharge of his duties as Secretary, he has laid us all under great obligation to him. We shall miss him very much from the Sunday services, and Irom the concerts towardsjbe success of which he lias gif en . unstintedly his time and attention, We shall not soon forget the amount of work which he undertook in connection with the entertainments,' for the renovation of the sphopl lapt wfnter, which'proved such an unqualified success, (lit behalf of the choir T have been requested to present rp Mrs Aitken this pearl OardWe and to Mr Aitken a Russian learMr pppket book, ob a small token p7«B respect apd esteem in which '» are held by all the mimbera,

Mr Oosgey, couductor, expressed bis indebtedness to Mr and Mrs An ken for the help they had always cheerfully rendered and he should miss Mr Aitken very muoh from the choir. He assured them of hearty good wishes for their future.
Mr Aitken suitably replied remark* fag that he did not expeot auoh' kindness to be shown| or such recognition of his services to be made, His connection wiih the choir had been a very agreeable one, and he should always have pleasant reoollection of it, He thanked them heartily for the presentations made and for the kind words spoken. Auld Lang Syne was sung at 10.80 and the friends left for their homes.
