BOARD; ' Monthly Meeting. The monthly meeting of the Boan of Education was held yesterday Present—Messrs J. B. Blair (Chairman), W. W. M'Cardle, J. Young t. Bradey, F. H. Fraser, W, A Fitzherbert. The following matters affeoting thii district were dealt with : Referring to a letter which had ap-
peared in a Wellington paper oharg- ' ing the Board with inconsistency in connection with the Appointment of Mr to the Kaiwaiwai Sohool, the Chairman said there w»s no inconsistency as there were no toaohers in the Board's Bemoe amongst the applicants, and Mr Webb, being a well-qualified tencher,w»B accordingly appointed. The Committee appointed to enquire into difference existing between ihe Committee and teacher of the Wnihen«a School reported that there could lie no doubt that the education of the children must be affected by tbo J existing friction, (because of ffhioh was a tnfling matter, and in no way affecting the condoot, of the teacher fniiii an educational point of view. The recommended the Hoard to tran-fer the teacher to some post of similar value as Boon aa opportunity occurred*. The report was adopted.
The question of granting assistance towards the building or' a new sohool at Cfrassendale was left in the hands of tbo Chairman to deal with.
The Dalebeld Committee applied for a neyr pump, which was granted, and £5 was voted to the Kaituna School for repairs to the fence, The Masterton Commitieo applied for furniture for the head teacher's room, It waß resolved to reply that there were no funds available for the purpose,
Mrs Stewart and Miss Beech were appointed sewing teachers at Mangauiahoo and Ohariu respectively, the salary ic each case being £5. Miss Lucy Oolwell was appointed pupil teacher at Hawera, A similar 'appointment at Waihenga was con« ferred upon Misa A. Fellingbam. Tbo appointment of a pupil teacher atTnueru m left in the bands of the Chairman of the Board.
Mr Britland was appointed to the Makakahi School,
A letter was read from the Pahiatua Committee urging the removal o!Mr C, W. Lee, headmaster, on tne ground of alleged friction between him and bis subordinates, On the motion of Mr M'Cardle, seconded by Mr Buchanan, it was decided that the Chiirman, Messrs .Fraser, Biadey and the mover should hold an enquiry at Pahiatua,
Leave of absence was granted to M 133 M'Kenny, of the Pahiatua School.who is in thu Palmowton Hospital suffering from typhoid fever, It was decided to transfer Mies Braithwaite from Olareville to Greytown.
The Chairman of the Bo ird undertook to make enquiries into an allegation of Mr A, R, Homblow that the Ghairmun at the annual meeting of Greytown householders had refused to allow certain persons who had arrived late to record their votes,
