THE NEW SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

Annual Election. _/ Master Iu spite of iheboisleluUsriighta to the Main School last evening, to attend the annual meeting and elect the Committee for the coming year.' ' On the proposition of Mt W, M. Easthop", Mr E. Feist, was elected ta, the chair, and opened the meeting by calling upon tbe Secretary to read the report and balance sheet, as already published in our columns.

Tbe Chairman in moving tbe adoption of the report said he thought be might say it iv'hs a satisfactory summary of their proceedings.' The Committee had in the past year carried out n syßtem of economy. The assistance, of the Town Lands Trust has helped the Committee very considerably, and it was help 1 they bad managed to d^wiall.Mto^,--,'. had also vary friendly relations wiih the " Education Board, and the school was now second to none in tho'Colony, being muoh improved by the additions and alterations. He icould not sit down without paying a tribute to Mr W. H. Jaotson, the Head Teacher, and his staff of assistants, who had done such excellent work in tbe past year. He had nothing further to say, but would be glad to hear any householder who might wish to make any remarks on the report. Mr Walter Perry seconded the adoption of the report.

Mr W. G. Beard said be should have preferred someone outside the Committee to have spoken on the report and bitlancß'Sheet, but as no oue deemed inclined he should like to , say a few wotds. It would be remembered that a ODoimittee, of which he fas a member had guaranteed some three years ago to exercise economy and get the school out of debt, After the Committee had undertaken to bring the sohool affairs out of the muddle, they were in, the Town Lands had made a grant, andi nojd carrying out their pledge'tohj yrouir enough to feel tliey wore entitled to some credit for what they done, and for having left the first credit balance, nt the end of their terra for ISomo years. Another matter was that they had ii'fl.de tlieir host endeavour to ob«, tain a benefit from the Town Lands Trust in the shape of a scholarship fund. It had been suggested that tho establishment of a eebolaisbip would be for. ihe few and not the many. This was not the case, and unless the householders availed themselves of the funds, which tlicy had tho right : to, for the purposes of higher education, tlicy would be taking a retrograde step. If they, thought as parents," that they could ilect a better Com* niiitee than the present one, it was their duty to shot them, but if not they should return the old committee, who had done so well, (Applause,) Tho report wan then unanimously adopted. On the motion of the Chairman Messrs Keau, Holdaway, T. G. Mason and Papworth were appointed scrutineers.. The Chairman then nominations, and definition ot the term householder was owner or tenant, and not lodger, i Tho following nominations were then received, and on a ballot' being taken the voting resulted as follows T-Wagg 69 W, G, JJeard 62 2, M.
