FEATHERSTON NOTES.

As the morning train left here this , morning, an elderly gentleman and i lady were observed at the crossing, & { few hundred yards below the station, | old gentleman was waving his hat vigorously, trying to stop the train, but the train Bwept by, All this looked ludicrous enough to tbo onlookers, but the pathetic part of it is that the lady inquostion m hurrying to her dying son in the Wellington hospital. Usually the morning train is a few minutes late in atarting, but this morning by way of ohange it was ! punctual.
I understand that an impudent robbery was perpetrated in Martinborough on Thursday evening. Those forming the bee for the gravelling of the uohool play-ground made a good show. yesterday, working till lata in tbe evening they have made an improvement in the aepeot of the playground. The Annie Brandt Comedy Company open here to-night, performing 11 He-would be a Soldier," after which there'will be an olio, ending up with the force, "The Limerick Boy." From all accounts the oompauy ia very good, ao wn wish them a hamper house. The company intend giving a Bftored concert to-mrrrov? night. So far there are no nominations ol new members for the Sohool Committee election, which takes place or Monday.
