The annual examination of the school haa juat been held by Mr Lee, and I licit that the result was highly satisfactory, thore being very few failures and tho work generally being highly commended by the Inspector. One cannot get details as the master is bound by the Teachers' Institute not to supply them, and the Committee seem to fall in with blm, but that matters not as tho parents aro satisfied and the children are happy, Preparations are nop being made for a concert to i-aiso funds for the prizes, and if possible at tho samß time to supplement the children's library, The Taueru orchestra as usual are to the fore and are givinfr all tho assistance in their power. It is to be hoped a good house will reward the efforts cf all ongagod.and that a handsome addition may be fpade to the library,
Tho orchestra here on Saturday night inaugurated a fortnightly series of dances. If tho first is any criterion of tho others tho season should bo vory enjoyable. There were plenty of dancers, a good floor, and splendid music. Anything of thij sort is vory welcomo as as helpinK to piss the long winter evenings which aro now coming so fast upon us.
Tho sheep travelling down to Masterton, which aro put up for the night in Messrs Beetbam's padduek near the saw-mill havo been meeting with trouble lately, On two or three ncoasiona they havo beon worried during the night. The last tima no less than nine woro killed, and something liko 20 bitten and knocked about, More damage would certainly havo been done had it not been that some of tho residents hearing the noise got up from their bode, and tried to find the dogs, but the night was too dark for thorn to bo distinguished. However on being disturbed thoy decamped and the sheep were loft in peace for tho r ostof the night.
