I Satoedat. Tho_ Wairarapa South County Council met yesterday and struck a poor rate, of wliioh notice had been given, of 110 th (one tenth) of a penny in the £ over the rateable property iu thu county,
Aoonnuta for the recent liconaing elections amounting to £lB7 were passed- for payment. In connection therewith it was resolved that the Government be advised that it is the opinion of this Counoil all future lioonsing elections should he under the direct control of the Local Bodies believing they could be more economically conducted by the Looal Bodies, and with as great effieienoy. The following motion, proposed by Cr Martin, was adopted : -That tho attention of the Government bo called to the urgent necessity for more oare being exercised in sending labour reports, and that special mention be iinado of one instance in a recent report from MartiuboroHgh that the local labour market was not over supplied, in consequent of which the dis. trict was flooded with unemployed, Or Matthews stated that daring 80 years ho had never known Wairongomai so flooded with swaggers as now.
