CARTERTON.
(From Our Own Correspondent), . The Church parade of the Amalgamated Friendly Sooieties was field yesterday: The procession formed at; the Foresters' Hall and marched in full regalia and with'banners, to the to Ihe Presbyterian Cliuroh. They numbered about seventy members and a band of thirteen performers in uniform. An appropriate sermon was preached by the Rev 0. Murray.
There ware special Easter services at St, Marks yesterday, and the attendances were very large, The in- j terior of the Ohurcb was arranged with floral deooratione and evergreen shrubbs. There was a full choir, and the speoial hymns and anthems were beautifully rendered. At the other ohurches the attendances were good, Monday, During the of the ori'cket match here on Saturday, Wellington Stars v Carterton, a watch was stolen from the ficokefc of Mr W., Moore's vest, which he ■ had hung np in the cricketer's shed. Prom the same room to-day, Mr H. Vennell's pocket book contaiuiog one £5 note, and five single pound notes, also two deer shooting licenses, was stolen from his coat, whioh he bad left hanging in the same room. The police have a suspicion who the thief is.
Bush fires are raging ou the hills at the foot of the Taratua ranges opposite Carterton, and two stacks, oneofßtraw, and the other of oats, have been destroyed at Belvedere, the property of,Mr R, Butler,' Some trucks, Blabs, and raaohiuery, have been destroyed on Mr W. Booth's land adjoining,
In the cricket match played on Saturday, the visitors were viotoriouß. To-day the local Club and a team from Homewood and the East Coast tried conclusions, victory resting with the Carterton team,
