(Froai Oar Own Correspondent,) The sports in connection with the - EWheratna Brass Band were held on ' the Cricket Reserve last Saturday afternoon. Nearly two hondrfd were on the ground. Heavy rain greatly marred the day's enjoyment, and only the open races were run, the diatriot ones being pojtponed until next Friday afternoon. Tha Hurdle Handicap was a particularly difficultevent, owing to the slippery nature o£ the ground, several competitors knock* ' ■ iog both and thotnselves down. Notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather, the Secretary, Mr R, J, McLean,did all in his power . to ruu the events off, and ia to be congratulated on his efficient manage* ' mont. The starting was exceedingly good, and Mr J. Little deserves special . mention .for his efforts in this line. V Messrs W. Hodder and J. McLeod officiated as judges.
