The stock sale lield by Mr F, H. Wood at the. Martinborough yards yesterday, must on the whole be pronounced a success, more particularly as regards the quautifcy and quality of of stook yarded, and the attendance, tbe latter being the largest ever seen lata stock sale in tbe Wairarapa. Maryborough bad quite a gala sp« pearance, and tbe numberof horsemen and vehiolea pouring into the township from all direoliona reminded one of a popular race meeting, The extraotli* nary number of sheep dogs present, howevor, dispelled ibis idea. Mr F. H, Wood gives ua the following report of the sale. After roferring to the number of sheep yarded (about 11,000) and the attendance, be says: —Bidding, though far (romspirited, indioated a healthier state of the market, and except in OBses where owners had placed a prohibitive reserve on tbmr stock, Bales were readily effeoted under the hammer, and tbe bulk of those passed'in were sold privately afterwards, tbe following prioes being realized Sheep -Shorn lambs from 26 4d to 4s; lambs in tbe wool from 4s 3d to 63 Id; store ewes, 4s 8d to 8s 3d,; 2 tooth do, 0s to 7s; fat ewes, 7s 6d to 8s; store wetbera, 7s lOd to 9s; fat wethers, 10sGd; Romney Marsh rams, from 1 to 2 guineas; Lincoln do 1 to 1-J guinoas. Cattle-Cows, store, £8 15s; heifers and cows, forward for beef, £4 13s Gd; steers, XG fis. HonßEg—Only a few changed hands. Draughts from £l7 to £24; backs from £5 to £lO.
