H.M.S. LIZARD IN A GALE.
One Mm Di owned. H.M.S, Lizard, which arrived at Wellington unexpectedly yesterday afternoon from LyMton, Dunedin, the Bluff, and Milford Sound, experienced terrific weather on the West Coast on Friday last. She left Milford Sound at 7 a.in. ou Thursday, and on the following day she encountered n terrifio north-east gale, with furiouß ana raging sea. About 4 in the afternoon, when the gale was at its height, and the vessel was about 18 miles south-west of Cape Foulwind, a great! sea washed oyer her, carrying two of I the crew—A. Street, - A,8,, andW. Tucker,L.S. - off the bowsprit. Tucker Bank before help oould be given, but Street, wiio is a strong swimmer, grasped a life buoy which was thrown to him, and after great difficulty he was hauled on board in an exhausted state. Three other seaman narrowly escaped being washed overboard.: The gale continued until Saturday morning, and the vessel was hove-to for several hours.
