H.M.S. LIZARD IN A GALE.

H.M.S, Lizard, which arrived at Wellington unexpectedly yesterday afternoon from LyMton, Dunedin, the Bluff, and Milford Sound, experienced terrific weather on the West Coast on Friday last. She left Milford Sound at 7 a.in. ou Thursday, and on the following day she encountered n terrifio north-east gale, with furiouß ana raging sea. About 4 in the afternoon, when the gale was at its height, and the vessel was about 18 miles south-west of Cape Foulwind, a great! sea washed oyer her, carrying two of I the crew—A. Street, - A,8,, andW. Tucker,L.S. - off the bowsprit. Tucker Bank before help oould be given, but Street, wiio is a strong swimmer, grasped a life buoy which was thrown to him, and after great difficulty he was hauled on board in an exhausted state. Three other seaman narrowly escaped being washed overboard.: The gale continued until Saturday morning, and the vessel was hove-to for several hours.
