STUGGLE WITH BURGLARS.

Sydney, February 2. A desperato affray took place at an early hour this morning in Bridge street, between tbe police and burglars. Constables Ball, M'Cort, and Lyons shadowed three men whom they had seen leaving the Union Steamship Company's offices. When tbo two parties got floss together the burglars turned round and drew their jemmies, felling M'Cort and Lyons, whom they knocked senseless witb crushing blows on the head. Hall, who OYaded several blows directed at him, started in pursuit of the men, and one of tbe latter drew a revolver, but did not use it. Soveral other constables joined in the hunt, and after a desperato struggle, in which two more constables were severely injured, two of tbe burglars were captured, b\it tho thirft 'man succeeded ip making his escape.

It js thought the burglars expected (o take a lot of cash in the Union Company's office in the shape of| passenger fares by the Mararoa, which left for Auckland yesterday, but were disturbed before they could got anything. The four constables who were in. jured were taken to the Hospital, and from tbe latest accounts ate id a serious condition,
