THE WOOL MARKET.
London, January 17. The total number of bales of wool that have arrived is 386,000 bales, of which 88,000 bales have been forwarded direct to the manufacturing districts.. With the quantity held over from the last series, 270,000 bales will be available for the present Series, At the sales, the bidding ijj : '■ i spirited, and the prices are well tained. -TF Messrs Murray, Roberts and Co. reportWe are to-day in receipt of the following cable message from our' London friends, Messrs Sanderson, Murray and Co., regarding the wool sales:-"London, 16th January.— The sales have opened with a good attendance of buyers. For. merino the market shows no change, but competition is weak,' For cross-bred the market is firm,"
The New Zealand Land Association has received the following cable message fiom London;-" Wool.—The sales opened this day at the level of last sales. Tho attendance of both - Homo and foreign buyera |b normal, and tompetilion fairly active.
