A man named Frederick De Lacy, alias John Mills was charged before Messrs 0, Hupjhea and T. E, Price at Masterton, this morning, with drunkenness. The prisoner, who was in a very shaky condition, pleaded guilty. A second of stealing an ulster and an apron from the residence of Mr W, Darley, was also preferred against the same man. In reply to the Bench heeaid ho might have taken the things but knew nothing of it. Mrs Darley gave evidence that the man had removed the things from her scullery, and roiling them up took them away. She went after him and accused him of the theft and obtained the goods without trouble, The accutod appeared the worse for liquor at the time- Do Lacy, in reply to the Bench, said he had I se6n Berfioo in India, and a very little drink made him unaccountable for his actions. He further stated that "he was not a bad man" and pleaded hard for leniency. The Bench pointed out that in spite of accused's statements ton previous convictions had been recorded against him. On the charite of larceny a sentence of 14 days bard labor would be imposed, and for drunkenness accused wonld be fined 5s or in default 48 hours.

An extraordinary general meeting of shareholders of tho Wellington Meat Company was held at noon yesterday in the Chamber of Commerce, Mr \V. 0. Buchanau in the cnair. The object of the meeting wab to confirm a resolution passed at tho eitraordinary general meeting hold on 30th August, fixing tho number of directors at not less than five and not more tba.n seven. Mr O. Pllarasyn moved the confirmation of the resolution, which was oarried. This concluded the business of tho extraordinary meeting. The adjourned annual meeting was then held, the business beinc; to elect directors for the ensuing year, Mr G. M. Kebble moved that the following bo appointed : —Meßars W. O. Buchanan, M.H.R„O, B. Izard, 0. Plurazyn, W. 6, Foster, and 3. VI. Marshall. The Hon. G. M'Leau thought the directors would either have to buy sheep or shut up. Mr 0. Pharajyn said that, speaking for himself, and also for the Chairman, thoy had really lost by purchasing stock and selling to the Company. He had sold his freezers for the next five years, and therefore he had no interest in buying or celling sheep, He personally would like.to he relieved of the labour of being a director of the Company, but thought as the directors (not by their own fault) had got the Company into the difficulty, thoy should on> duavour to get them out of it, Mr W, G. Foster assured tho Company that the Loan and Mercantile Company had never made a half-penny by any purchases of stock ho had made on behalf of the Meat Company.
