GREYTOWN BOROUGH COUNTY.
Election of Councillors,
(From Our Owe Correspondent).
Considerable interest was manifested in the election of Councillors yeatorday, There were six candidates/and many were the speculations as to the result. Shortly alter six o'clook last evening, a large crowd assembled at the Council Chambers, all anxiously awaiting the declaration of the Poll.
At about 6.80 the Returning Officer, Mr A. L. Webster, made his appearance, and announced the successful competitors as follows. H, Station Izard ... 115 Ohas Rogers 88 John Rea 77 The total number of votes recorded was 410, of which only one was informal.
Messrs Izard and Rogers briefly thanked the electors for their support, and stated that they had the interest of the Borough at heart, and would strive to retain the confidence placed in thoin,.as shown by the result of the poll, Mr D. Cameron, one of the un» successful candidates, thanked those who had voted for him. He had been iu the Council for nine years, and thought it was quite time some fresh blood was tried.
Mr Rogers proposed a vote of !thanks to the Returning Officer (Mr L L. Webster) which was carried by acclamation.
