OflßisronuMH, Sept. 11. Between about 10 p.m. yesterday and 7 this morning the railway stations at Eeathcote, Woolston and Opawa, on the Cbristcburoh-Lyttelton line, we broken into. Entry was effected at Heathcote by forcing a window with a jemmy. Tbe safe was only n

light fire-proof one, a*d tlie burglars succeeded in rippiDg off the top plate with the jemmy and a crowbar, and then burst open the door/ A Bum ofi £l7 14s lOd in cash was taken, and a quantity of stamps. Of the money £8 belonged to tfae station- roaster. The door at Woolston station was forced ati<j (l se ticket drawer opened, but only a box of llou»li on Rats belonging to the station-master was missed,! The safe was not touched. At Opawa the door of the station was apparently opened with a key. The ticket drawers and cupboard were opened, but nothing was taken. A fruitless attempt was made with a chisel to open the safe, and the point of tho chisel wag broken off. The safes at Woolsto n and Opawa were small but strong _ The burglars left no cluo.
