THE MONARCH OF UTOPIA.

On Thursday next, 7th inst, at th» Opera Houm', Wellington, will be produced for tho first time on any stage the 'Monarch of Utopia' written by'Mr H. B. T Bridge and composed by Mr F. .W.Jones, .of Wellington. This performance is inveaicd with singular interest from the fact that 'ihe Opera is tlie entire prodnotion of Wo'linsjton colkb'mi'eurs, The scenery mid drus-esli.ivo been specially prepaud on o scale of great splendour and will form a very pleas-' ing feature of the performance, Tho music, is tuneful and blight throughout and is olwractoriped by much originality of a quaint and pleasing nature, The ■ libretto is witty and smart and abounds with many quips and cranks thrown off spontaneously from the faeilo prn cf Mr Bridge. The entire production upon the rise of tho curtain will have cost Ihe Society about £SOO to place on the stago so lliero is n considerable element of risk in ihe venture, The Society i?, however, so conGdpnt ot she Opera becoming an -iustint success that they have incurred liiirt heavy expense without any qualms of conscience.
