TARATAHI-CARTERTON ROAD BOARD.
Ordinary Meeting.
The ordinary monthly meeting ol the above Board was held on Satur-
day last. Present: Messrs H. B. Bunny (Chairman), H. Braithwaito, J. Bayner, W. Miller, J ameß Stevens, Geo, Stevens, W. B. Allen, Geo, Carter a»d 6. W. Deller,
The minutes nf the previous meeting were read and confirmed,
The Treasurer reported tho Bank overdraft- as £IOSO 12s 9d and also gave a statement of liabilities of each Ward.
A long discussion ensued on the financial position of the Board, and the opinion of the Wardens was that the only way but of the difficulty was to ask the County Council to strike a rate of one half penny in the £, the Bame to be paid to the credit of the Bond Board.
It was moved by Mr James Stevens seconded by Mr W, B.Allen that the County Council be asked to levy a special rate cf a half penny in the £ in the Gladstone aud Carterton Ridings, - with the exception of a small portion in the Featherston district.
Mr Braithwaito moved and Mr Eayner seconded that U days notice be given that all ralos unpaid will be sued, for without delay and that a rate collector bo instructed to take proceedings against all defaulters, A letter was received from Mr Acheson on bebnlf of Messrs Angove and Mundy claiming damages to the extent of £IOO, for diversion of water from its natural course,whereby their lands are flooded, A letter from Mr Gnnderson on tho same matter was also read.
Mr Deller moved that a drain be dug near Mr Gunderson's to leiid to the original watei course.' MrHayner seconded the motion, wbiob was carried,
A lettor was read from Mr Bremner recommending that Mr Oates bo remunerated for saving some-timber from tho recent floods.
Mr F.H.Wood wrote, offering to] pay half costs for gravelling in front of his sale yards at Clareville.
It was moved by Mr Deller, seconded by Mr James Sterenß, tbat Mr Wood'B offer be accepted, and that, 'endera be oalled for the work,
An application from Mr Thomas Ray that the names of his sou and daughter be placed on the rate roll was granted.
Mr Thomas Price waited on the Board and presented a petition signed by a number of ratepayers, praying that their properties sho-ild be included in No. 5 Ward.—Resolved that the necessary steps be taken to place the matter in the proper order,
Mr D. Keid waited on the Board in reference to the water being thrown on to his property through 'Mr Moljachlan opening an outlet out L qf the natural course.—The matter .was' left in the hands of the Warden to repprtatnextmeeting,
• Itesolved that Messrs Williams, and Beetbam be allowed to make use of the plough to eradicate the gorse from the road side..
.Resolved : tliat Mr, Bremner- be asked to send an expert to assist at the protective works at, the JRuamaihqngaatGladstone.,. ■• -".
